The remarkable effect that activated charcoal has had on our dog, Cotton, was an answer to many prayers.  Cotton, our 5 year old English Cream Retriever, started getting sick in December.  He was diagnosed with pneumonia and given antibiotics.

He seemed to improve but soon thereafter we were visiting the vet weekly.  First, it was a sore back leg.  The next week he was back at the vet for what was thought to be a broken toe.  He also had an open sore between his toes. The next week he was back because he was losing his vision.   At that time he tested positive for Blastomycosis and glaucoma as a result of the fungal infection.

We were referred to the University Veterinary Health Center in our state to see a specialist for his eyes.  He had lost vision in one eye and the other eye was compromised. The doctors couldn’t tell whether or not the vision loss was permanent.  Throughout the course of treatment, Cotton was prescribed antibiotics, prednisone, 3 different types of eye drops and eventually a heart strengthener. We tried to incorporate coconut oil, wormwood and other supplements but eventually the infection began to get the best of him.

We had to put a harness on Cotton to help him outside. He was running into walls, was confused, would collapse as soon as he got to the yard, he no longer wanted to stay outside because the sunlight hurt his eyes, his drool was thick like glue, and he had numerous lesions on his body.   He slept around the clock, he was losing his appetite, and his weight had gone from 85 lbs to 70 lbs.

In March we weaned Cotton off of the steroid meds and drops then eventually stopped all the other meds.  He was getting sicker and sicker and we didn’t see any obvious benefits to the drugs.  Throughout the ordeal it was hard to tell if he was having side effects from the drugs or if the infection was starting to affect his central nervous system.

I reached out to you over the weekend and received your email Monday.  Per your suggestion, I gave Cotton 1/3 cup of my detox and cleanse activated charcoal mixed with 1/2 can of wet dog food that Monday afternoon.  He ate that up and had the same amount Tuesday.  After having no bowel movements for a week, he had one that day.  He also spit up some of the charcoal that was covered in mucous.  Wednesday he ate a whole can of dog food mixed with 2/3 cup of charcoal - half at lunch and half at dinner.  Thursday and Friday he had a can and a half of dog food mixed with almost a cup of charcoal spaced out 2 different times.  We gave him 1/2 cup of charcoal with a can of his food on Saturday and Sunday.

Each day we saw improvements and by Sunday Cotton had improved by leaps and bounds.  His appetite is back, he is going outside on his own and going to the bathroom daily, he is no longer drooling, and his lesions are getting better.  His eyes have cleared up and his vision in his compromised eye is much better.  We will have to get the one eye tested to see if it has improved but he is no longer running into walls and he can find his treats on the floor again. Cotton is spending lots of time outside and once again he is greeting us at the door with his toy in his mouth.

Our plan is to start giving Cotton 1/2 cup of charcoal daily with his food and then back down to an 1/8 cup twice daily for maintenance.

We are hopeful for his continued improvement and are just so very grateful for all of your help!
