Activated Charcoal for Celiac
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF), Celiac affects 1 out of 133 people in America. According to CDF, Celiac is a lifelong autoimmune intestinal disorder, found in
individuals who are genetically susceptible. Damage to the mucosal
surface of the small intestine is caused by an immunologically toxic
reaction to the ingestion of gluten and interferes with the absorption
of nutrients. Celiac Disease (CD) is unique in that a specific food
component, gluten has been identified as the trigger. Gluten
is the common name for the offending proteins in specific cereal grains
that are harmful to persons with celiac disease. These proteins are
found in all forms of wheat (including durum, semolina, spelt, kamut, einkorn, and faro), and related grains: rye, barley, and triticale and must be eliminated.
Some of the different symptoms associated with Celiac are: diarrhea, bloating, gas, constipation, abdominal pain, unexplained anemia, and irritable bowel syndrome. Activated charcoal is known to alleviate many of these symptoms.
As an individual is on the learning curve of adjusting their diet, eliminating some foods while learning to substitute non-gluten products for gluten containing foods, they can relieve much of the bowel discomfort by experimenting with the internal use of activated charcoal or by applying charcoal poultices over the abdomen.
Testimony
Hi, I am writing to say
thank you for a great talk a couple of weeks ago. I spoke with you
about my terrible GI appointment and you were of great help. I have
been taking charcoal for about three weeks now and am really feeling
better. I hope that better reports will follow. In the mean time, I
have told my family about it as many of us have Celiac and are greatly
appreciative of this as a remedy for getting 'glutened'. Thanks
Jessica
